Through prayer and a shared financial commitment from our Hispanic Churches Converge MidAmerica has two part-time Hispanic Ministry leaders on staff. Jessy Padilla is the director of Hispanic Ministries and Nephtali Mullings is the director of Pastoral Care to Hispanic Churches.
Jessy focuses his time and leadership, beyond his pastoral duties, to the training of pastors and lay leaders and the recruitment of church planters. Jessy is a strong leader, excellent pastor and a successful church planter. He has a dream to impact Hispanic leaders.
Pastor Nepthali Mullings provides pastoral care, consulting and coaching to our Hispanic pastors and leaders.
Jessy and Nepthali have proven track records of ministering beyond the local church and we look forward to see how God is going to use them in encouraging our churches and expanding our ministry among Latinos in our region. Jesus said, “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.” John 4:35
Ignite is a program designed to train and develop married Christian couples currently attending and leading in Converge MidAmerica churches who share the vision of reaching out to the unchurched Latino population. Although the Latino population is the fastest growing population in the United States, it is the least represented in the church today.
Ignite aims to equip and empower couples in our churches to learn the essential spiritual disciplines and leadership tools necessary to reach out to the second generation Latino population and start a movement of growth and revival in the Latino community. Over the past 5 years, 20 couples have participated in Ignite and have received invaluable leadership training that they have been able to use in their churches and communities.
Mexico is a country of great challenges on the subject of the gospel. The evangelical Christian church is less than 2% of its population. Jessy has had the privilege of going on mission trips for more than 25 years to Mexico. Converge has worked with different missions, and as a result of this, we have planted two churches. One church is in the state of Michoacán. Every year we regularly take a team of people to work in this region. For many years, we have talked and prayed with the leadership of our Converge MidAmerica district about the possibility of incorporating churches from outside the United States. This was a mutual feeling, for many years it was something that both sides desired. This year our prayer, and the beginning of affiliating partner churches, is starting to become a reality in Mexico. Through this partnership we can work together to plant more churches.
